Obama, President Carter, Nazis, and the Damn Race Card Debate!

“I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man”

President Jimmy Carter

It seems America has reached it’s apex in handling many issues that have hit us “head on” over the last year. These issues have become problematic in how America has been operating and how things can’t remain the same. In Washington, it’s still politics as usual and things haven’t been able to be accomplished because of ignorance, the dust settling from all the strife from the previous administration, and the way things have been run.

Race is an issue that is, and always will be a subject of taboo to some white and black people. In 2009, we should be able to appreciate the marvels of the civil rights movement and other grassroots organizations that went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure some of the rights we simply take for granted. It annoys me that I have to write a column this week on an extension of Joe Wilson’s “you lie” comments from last week. You’d think we could move on and Obama and his crew can shape this healthcare legislation. NOT!

On the tail end of my column last week, the “Tea Baggers” were marching and protesting in Washington, D.C. The media coverage went bonkers and had a field day of live shots; and protesters yelling and holding signs with offensive epitaphs of President Obama. As an African-American, a white person making comparisons of Obama to Adolf Hitler, is extremely offensive. Hitler, who created and executed some of the worst atrocities against Jews in modern history, was one of the racially motivated themes of the protests. Even the right-wing media outlets like Fox News has printed full-page ads advertising on how the media hasn’t gotten Obama’s health care coverage correct; yet the other networks produced commercials blasting and covering their hinds on how they did!

Yes, I’m offended when conservative writer and columnist Michelle Malkin goes on with Today Show host Matt Lauer and tells him “Obama is a racial opportunist.” How in the world is Obama a “racial opportunist,” when whites voted for his landslide defeat against Senator McCain 4 to 1? Has the right run out of ammunition? In addition to Bush scaring people with 911 and Bin Laden, the conservatives have painted Obama with Hitler, “Death Care for Kennedy,” and “Liberals are Communists.”

President Jimmy Carter in an interview with NBC anchor Brian Williams last week, stated “I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man.” This too opened up the floodgates of race from not only blacks, but from whites as well. President Obama again failed to address the issue in a timely and assertive manner. He sends White House Spokesperson Robert Gibbs with statement as moot as anything that has to do with race, ‘the president does not think it is based on the color of his skin.” DUH! Last week, “Tea Bagger” protesters presented signs and banners comparing negative stereotypes of Obama to racist and murderer! I shouldn’t have to defend the President, but I hope everyone shouldn’t be that naive nor feeble to let the media persuade you to think he’s a Nazi! These are simply race tactics used to further fuel the fire in dividing the people from the truth. Remember Dr. Jeremiah Wright during the presidential election?

Carter’s comments came from his whole experience while growing up in Georgia. He witnessed first hand, the atrocities of lynchings and segregation during Jim Crow. He simply spoke the truth about what’s been happening with how the conservatives have painted and continue to taint President Obama’s current rise to power. Race, along with the economy, the war in the Middle East, and unemployment; is an issue that needs to be addressed. Somehow, America doesn’t want to deal with this taboo subject. Not once have I seen, read, nor heard any Jewish organizations protesting President Obama being compared to Hitler or the Nazis! Nor, the ACLU or the other major grassroots organizations that protest free speech, speak out against the “Tea-Baggers” on this!

So race has definitely roared this ugly head this past week. Even radio host Rush Limbaugh made some heavy racial and harsh stereotypes of President Obama’s medical program. These comments started the whole Obama comparisons to Hitler back in August of this year.

Limbaugh adds, “they accuse of us being Nazis, and Obama’s got a healthcare logo that’s right out of Adolf Hitler’s playbook.” He later stresses how the Democrats are like the Nazis , “well, the Nazis were against big business — they hated big business. And of course we all know that they were opposed to Jewish capitalism. They were insanely, irrationally against pollution. They were for two years mandatory voluntary service to Germany. They had a whole bunch of make-work projects to keep people working, one of which was the Autobahn. They were against cruelty and vivisection of animals, but in the radical sense of devaluing human life, they banned smoking. They were totally against that. They were for abortion and euthanasia of the undesirables, as we all know, and they were for cradle-to-grave nationalized healthcare.” This is hate and propaganda based like Hitler; so the Sean Hannity’s, Glen Beck’s, Fox News, and Rush Limbaughs have a megaphone to spew their vile and ignorance. It makes them look bad and sets the image for them to try to find themselves again. Joe Wilson’s comments added to the race debate, and we know verbally what these politicians are thinking and saying behind closed doors.

Race is being used as a tool to keep this country from moving forward. It’s a known fact the conservatives have run this country for over 30 years. The thought of them losing both the House, Senate, and Head of State has crippled their power. Many oppose this change because of how the banks, the insurance industry, the media, and health industry has helped the “status quo” further set this country back. I’m not saying the Democrats are any better, but the thought of progress and change has scared many, leaving the “Hitler” comments all the conservatives have left.
